In the beginning the church was Broadus Memorial Baptist Church in 1953 as a new church plant. It was located in the Jackson Park area of
South Concord close to the Jackson Training School for boys and has been involved with mission work there over the years.
“POP” and Mary Carter began the mission work called Broadus in their cabinet shop behind their home on Jackson Terrace in 1953. Land was purchased on
Green Street and a one level hot roof church was erected. it has been developed and re-developed over years to it’s present structures.
The Lord has brought the fellowship a long way over this time and is presently financially secure and Spirit Led In The Word.
The church was named “Broadus” after the Carter’s son was killed in a school bus accident as a young boy. It was also named after John A. Broadus,
a Southern Baptist preacher from 1827-1895. He helped begin the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary and was an Army Chaplain in the Confederate Army
under Robert E. Lee. He preached to over 5000 of Lee’s men on one occasion. After the war he returned to the classroom until his death.
